The three systems, and when each one is right
Monster Hunter Wilds splits multiplayer into three overlapping systems, which is the main reason people get confused about why their friend "disappeared".
- Link Party — a persistent group of up to four that follows you between quests and menus. This is what you want for a play session with friends.
- Environment Link — puts a group in the same open-world instance, so you see each other outside of quests.
- SOS flare — broadcasts an active quest to matchmaking so anyone can join.
Playing with a friend on another platform
Cross-play is on by default, so a Link Party code works across PS5, Xbox and PC without any extra setup. Platform friend lists do not cross over, which is why the in-game code exists.
